How to show allergens on your online menu

Allergen information matters to a small share of your customers a great deal. Showing it clearly on your online menu saves them a phone call and saves your team a risky guess.

What to show

For each item, mark the common allergens it contains. In Awwranges you tick them on the item, and they show on your website as a short "Contains" line when someone opens the item. Customers can see it before they add the item to their order.

Keep it accurate

A label is only as good as the last time someone checked it. Make a habit of reviewing allergens whenever you:

  • change a recipe or a supplier,
  • add a seasonal item,
  • start using a new sauce, bread or topping.

Use the bulk upload to fill it in quickly

If your menu is long, the spreadsheet upload lets you enter allergens for many items at once. Download the template, fill in the allergen column, and upload it. You see a preview before anything is saved.

Be honest about what you cannot promise

Online labels are a guide. If your kitchen handles nuts, gluten or shellfish, cross-contact can happen, and your team should be ready to talk to any customer who asks. A short note on your contact page or in the item description is better than silence.

Note: This is general guidance, not legal advice. Rules about allergen information differ by place, so check what applies where you operate.

Train the team too

The website helps, but the person taking the order or making the food is your last check. Make sure everyone knows where allergens are listed and who to ask when they are unsure.

Take orders on your own website.
